penguins don't plan to re-sign guerin →
Veteran free agent winger Bill Guerin said by text message today that Penguins general manager Ray Shero has informed him the club has decided not to attempt to re-sign him for the 2010-11 season.
Guerin, 39, was acquired from the New York Islanders at the 2009 trade deadline and helped the Penguins to a strong finish in the regular season and a run to the Stanley Cup title.
He has been a fixture on the top line alongside center Sidney Crosby and on the top power-play unit.
Last season, Guerin had 21 goals, 45 points in 78 games, plus four goals, nine points in 11 playoff games.
Guerin has expressed an interest in playing at least one more season in the NHL.
The Penguins are in a tight salary cap situation. They have less than $2 million to spare. Guerin made $2 million last season.
